Wind Turbines
Wind turbines use large blades to catch the wind, driving a turbine which generates electricity. The stronger the wind, the more electricity produced. Over 40% of all the wind energy in Europe occurs over the UK, making it an ideal country for small to medium land-based turbines turbines. The South West is the second best region of the UK, after Scotland, for land-based wind turbine electricity generation.
The Energy Saving Trust has produced a useful wind speed prediction tool to help determine if your site has a good enough wind speed for a small scale wind turbine.
